Learner engagement refers to how you will present information.  Our goal is to move beyond “straight lecture” as we wish for speakers to “fire the learners brain cells”.  For example, single speaker vs. panel, polling questions to clarify group understanding, discussion, case studies, Q&A sessions, use of chat for individual dialoguing, and how the audience experience will occur - is this interactive or not.

A.

Yes!  Please review the poster information.

Q. If accepted for a poster presentation, how much time will have I have present?

A.

As this is a virtual conference, your poster will need to be recorded as an MP4 (5-10 min maximum). We recommend that you use your poster as a static file that you include a voiceover on.  There are several ways to do this and you can email education@afnmail.org if you need assistance or ideas on how to do so.  PowerPoint, Prezi, Screencast-O-Matic, Emaze, Flipgrid are a few examples of options for doing screen recordings.

A.

We will have a space on the Conference App that will allow conference attendees to view the videos developed by the poster presenters.

A.

No.  AFN does not allow the promotion of products and/or services during educational sessions. We will be using a conference application to offer an opportunity for promotion of products and services.

Q. When will I know if my presentation or poster has been accepted for the AFN 2022 Second Annual Virtual Conference?

A.

The submitter(s) will receive confirmation/notification from the Education Committee the week of October 1, 2022.

Q. If my proposal is accepted, will I receive any compensation for presenting?

A.

The AFN does not pay speakers or reimburse for expenditures.

Q. If my proposal is accepted, will I receive complimentary registration for AFN 2022?

A.

Submission of a proposal is a commitment to be a registered participant of the conference.  AFN will waive registration fees for presentation presenters, although not for the poster presenters.

Q. How will I be presenting in this Virtual Conference?

A.

We will be using Zoom Webinar for the Conference, as well as a separate Conference App.  We will arrange an optional 15–30-minute face-to-face session prior to the conference for each presenter.  You will have moderators to assist throughout the presentation for background technical assistance, chat, polling, and Q&A monitoring. You will need to have access to consistent internet, have downloaded the Zoom Application, and be able to commit to the time you will be presenting.  We also recommend use of headphones/microphone for best audio capture.

Q. I have never presented at an AFN Conference before.  What is expected of me?

A.

AFN Members invest a considerable amount of time and expense to attend the conference.  For these reasons, AFN works hard to ensure each event at the Conference realizes its full potential. It is expected that:

  • Presenters will prepare for their event prior to arrival.  If time is needed to practice using Zoom, we will make that available in the two weeks prior to the Conference.

  • Presenters have a significant knowledge and expertise of the subject area and have sufficient presentation skills to effectively communicate.

  • Presenters will engage the audience.  Successful presentations inspire audiences and leave them “buzzing with thoughts and ideas”.  Engage your audience as quickly as possible.

  • Presenters will not engage in commercial presentations of their organization.

  • Presenters will be conscious of the time limitation of their presentation.

  • Presenters will not simply read directly from written statements.

  • We encourage presenters to share contact information with attendees at the end of their session.

  • Standardized evaluation questions will be utilized for all presentations.

Q. I don't see the answer to my question listed here?

A.

If you do not see your question answered above, please contact the Education Committee Chair directly at education@afnmail.org.
