About The Event

The Academy is excited to welcome Rachel Ramirez for Part II of this Special 90-Minute Members Only AFN Webinar - I Just Can't Think Straight: Domestic Violence, Trauma & Brain Injury, on October 13, 2021 at 12:00 PM EST!

This webinar is a follow up to I Just Can’t Think Straight: Domestic Violence, Trauma, and Brain Injury, and will build on information learned in the first webinar about partner-inflicted brain injury.  This webinar will discuss the community based participatory research done in Ohio and detail what we learned from professionals who work with victims and victims themselves.  This process in collaboration with domestic violence programs resulted in the development of a framework called CARE (Connect, Acknowledge, Respond, Evaluate) to assist domestic violence programs to raise awareness on brain injury caused by violence and better meet the needs of survivors in their services.

We will learn about implementing CARE, including the importance of identification of head trauma, providing education to survivors on the consequences of head trauma caused by domestic violence, as well as ways to make your services accessible to survivors who have been impacted by brain injury.  We will also think through the important role forensic nurses play in the lives of survivors, and how increased collaboration with forensic nursing will increase the safety of survivors and improve all of our services.

This Webinar is open to all AFN Members! Looking forward to seeing you there!

Don't miss your opportunity to:

  • Learn about the findings from Ohio's research with domestic violence programs.
  • Understand the ways to use a CARE approach.
  • Learn about available CARE materials on brain injury and domestic violence that can be used in your programs.
