Get a sneak preview of the remastered SAFE Virtual Practicum set for release in late 2021. The Virtual Practicum, originally created and used widely across the country since 2008, includes patient simulations, interactive exercises, interviews with sexual assault survivors, and conversations with expert practitioners. It incorporates advances in science, technology, and best practice recommendations to train members of the health care community on all aspects of the sexual assault medical forensic exam and preparing for court testimony.
This project is made possible through a grant from the US Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) and the collaborative partnership of End Violence Against Women International, World Two Systems, Zapdot, the Academy of Forensic Nursing, the International Association of Forensic Nurses, and OVW.
Geared toward law enforcement, advocacy, legal, forensic nurses, advanced practice providers and emergency department/healthcare providers.

GUEST PRESENTER - GRACE FRANCES MPA, Director of Community Partnerships, End Violence Against Women International Grace Frances is the Director of Community Partnerships for End Violence Against Women International. She focuses on fund development to expand EVAWI’s ability to improve criminal justice and community responses to sexual assault survivors. She also works with the Cadre of Experts, helping to expand their expertise to train on trauma-informed approaches to sexual assault. Grace worked for the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence (FCASV) for 16 years, where she managed statewide certification of Florida’s 31 sexual assault programs, ensuring centers provided quality services. At FCASV she also oversaw the state’s first sexual assault nurse examiner training program. Grace spent five years as a volunteer advocate supporting sexual assault victims and 11 years as a volunteer counselor for a crisis hotline.
Grace earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon, and has a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She lives in Tallahassee, Florida.
GUEST PRESENTER - JOSEPH V. HENDERSON MD, MPhil, MA, Professor Emeritus, Geisel School of Medicine, Dartmouth College and Senior Partner, World 2 Systems, LLC Joseph V. Henderson, MD, MPhil (Epidemiology), MA (Physiology), is Professor Emeritus of Community and Family Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College and Senior Partner, World 2 Systems, LLC. He was Director of Dartmouth's Interactive Media Laboratory (IML), developer of the original version of the SAMFE Virtual Practicum. He designed, wrote, directed, and produced the original program, as well as the updates for this new version. He has more than 35 years’ experience as a multimedia developer and educator, creating large-scale interactive multimedia programs for health professionals and others. Many of the programs employ an e-learning model invented at IML, the Virtual Practicum. His programs are noted for being thorough and comprehensive in content presentation, and for being carefully crafted and produced.
GUEST PRESENTER - DIANA FAUGNO MSN, RN, CPN, SANE-A, SANE-P, FAAFS, DF-IAFN, DF-AFN Diana Faugno is a Founding Board Director for End Violence Against Women International (EVAWI). She also is a founding board member and is the immediate past president of the Academy of Forensic Nursing. She is a retired-fellow in the American Academy of Forensic Science, and a Distinguished Fellow in the International Association of Forensic Nurses, and Distinguished Fellow in the Academy of Forensic Nursing.
Diana works for Live Safe as a Forensic Nurse in Marietta, Georgia. In April 2019 she was the recipient of the National Crime Victims’ Rights Week Award given in Washington DC. She provides training across the country and internationally for sexual assault and domestic violence/non-fatal strangulation to assist communities who wish to bring forward teams of health care providers. She is also a co-author of numerous textbooks and papers on dealing with the forensic medical aspects of violence, such as the Color Atlas of Sexual Assault, published in 1997, which was the first book of its kind in the Nation.
