Need a Mentor

Karen D. Carroll, RN SANE-A, SANE-P NY-SAFE
Karen D. Carroll has been a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of New York for more than 40 years. She has held management positions in the emergency department, pediatrics, and on medical-surgical units.
Ms. Carroll received her training as a clinical nurse specialist to become SANE Nurse from the Columbia University School of Nursing in New York City in 1997. She coordinated the Westchester County SANE Program for over 8 years. She was the Associate Director for the Bronx Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) for over 6 years. She is a Past President of the Board of Directors of the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault, former Advisory Board Member of RAINN, and a former Board Member of End Violence Against Women International. She also served as a consultant for the SANE Sustainability Grant and the NYS SANE Coordinator Advisory Committee.
Her career is filled with many accomplished awards. One of the most notable accomplishments for her however is her teaching of health care professionals in the issues of sexual assault and domestic violence. “I love teaching new nurses about sexual assault and domestic violence. It energizes me. I moved and retired and miss the training of nurses so one way I can give back is by being a mentor for the Academy.”
Karen was thrilled to be appointed the AFN mentor for Forensic Nurses. If you have a question about Forensic Nursing please contact her at KCarroll@afnmail.org. She will be happy to talk to you.
