Kimberly Kasper is an acute care nurse practitioner with over 25 years of experience and a full-time faculty member at Duquesne University. She specializes in forensic nursing, focusing on sexual assault survivors across all ages, and has served in leadership roles with national and international organizations.
Education and career
Medical and nursing career: Kasper has 31 years of experience in emergency, trauma, and internal medicine, starting as an EMT before becoming a registered nurse (RN) and an acute care nurse practitioner (ARNP).
Military service: She served for nine years in the U.S. Air Force as a flight nurse.
Faculty position: As a full-time faculty member at Duquesne University, she teaches in the Advanced Practice Forensic Graduate, Acute Care Adult Gerontology, and Family Practice Nurse Practitioner programs.
Clinical practice: She provides care at a community clinic for uninsured patients, with a focus on migrant women and their families.
Leadership and international work
Academy of Forensic Nursing: Kasper is the interim president-elect for the Academy of Forensic Nursing (AFN).
International Association of Forensic Nurses: She is the past president of the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
U.S. State Department: She has worked with the U.S. State Department Diplomacy Council, training healthcare providers and leaders on best practices for responding to violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault.

Goal Statement
My personal and professional goals have always been deeply aligned with the AFN’s mission. In my academic role, I integrate evidence-based practices and trauma-informed care into my pedagogy, directly shaping the next generation of forensic nurses. As a practicing nurse practitioner, I apply these principles daily to provide compassionate and effective patient care. Across all my roles, I actively build interdisciplinary relationships, creating partnerships that strengthen the forensic nursing community.
