WHAT IS THE PRETTY BLUE DYE?
BEST PRACTICE CONCEPTS FOR TOLUIDINE BLUE DYE USE IN MEDICAL FORENSIC EXAMS
Join your colleagues to learn more about best practice utilization of Toluidine Blue Dye (TBD) in cases of sexual assault & ano-genital injury. Toluidine blue dye is easy and safe to use, readily available, inexpensive and does not interfere with the analysis of medico-legal evidence. TBD is recommended to be used in the examination of all cases of sexual assault!
Learn tips and techniques on application and removal of the dye. Research has shown you can increase the detection rate of posterior fourchette lacerations from 16% to 40% in adult sexual assault victims. Learn what a positive and negative result might look like. Participate in 15 case reviews and analyze TB dye use, application, photo-documentation and interpretation of negative or positive results. Attendees will be able to apply these techniques to their practice by critiquing case studies involving use of cell staining to assist the documentation of genital injury.

FORENSIC NURING RESPONSES TO THE EPIDEMIC OF STRANGULATION
Recognition of non-fatal strangulation (NFS) injury and its sequelae has come a long way from a few short years ago when strangulation was considered just choking, to today where NFS is now recognized as a felony and life-threatening crime in 48 states. Like the risk and severity of NFS, the medical forensic examination of patients who have experienced this mechanism of injury can be misunderstood.
This course will provide learners with the knowledge necessary to understand the lethality associated with NFS, the medical risks, and medical forensic examination components needed to successfully assess and treat patients who have experienced this type of assault. Case reviews will supplement the training points for continued learning.
