This regional conference VIRTUAL REPLAY is designed for nurses looking to learn from Domestic Violence Programs that have expanded services and how you can expand your program to include follow up services for your forensic patients. FORENSIC IMPLICATIONS OF GUNSHOT WOUNDS
Gunshot wounds are complex and prevalent. Nurses who interact with patients affected by GSW, aside from rendering medical care and performing life-saving measures, play a crucial role in identification, collection, and preservation of forensic firearm evidence. Knowledge about the language used to describe GSW, as well as how to recognize different injury patterns and objectively document findings are imperative for both patient care outcomes as well as legal outcomes.

BEYOND ACUTE EXAMS: HOW TO DEVELOP A FOLLOW-UP CLINIC
This presentation will provide guidance on strategies to promote and sustain a forensic nurse examiner program including the process of improving and maintaining quality patient care outcomes by developing a rigorous peer review tool, ongoing competencies, and rigorous orientation. Outpatients follow up clinic development including the importance and how to develop the logistics will be reviewed. Once approval is received for a follow up process, billing to sustain it will be discussed.

WORKING BEHIND THE CURTAIN: FORENSIC NURSES GUIDE TO CRIMINAL CASE CONSULTING
Medical evidence is presented in criminal court cases, from sexual assault to driving under the influence, in which medical issues are relevant or central to the pursuit of justice. Such evidence often plays a pivotal role in the outcome of such cases. This educational session will highlight how legal nurse consultants can leverage their critical thinking and medical legal case analysis skills and knowledge to facilitate the effective utilization of medical evidence in the criminal courts.

VICARIOUS TRAUMA
Vicarious Trauma (VT) is a type of empathetic engagement or an occupational hazard of working with victims of violence and trauma. Empathy, which is the quality that makes us so effective in our work, also makes us the most vulnerable to experiencing VT. VT has an insipidus onset and occurs with repetitive exposure to another’s trauma and can result in negatively affecting our sense of belonging, relationships, work, beliefs, safety, and judgement. Through a concept analysis and intervention tools we will learn how to assist ourselves, co-workers, and patients.

Ms. Bell is a forensic nurse, performing sexual assault, drug endangered children, and domestic violence examinations. She is SANE-A and SANE-P certified. She has participated on many task forces, advisory committees and boards regarding sexual assault, violence, and forensic nursing issues. Her current taskforce work includes the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention medical advisory board, Oklahoma sexual assault task force and Academy of forensic nursing.

Teresa Devitt-Lynch is a 20-year veteran of the US Navy Nurse Corps, where she first started providing forensic nursing care to active-duty military members and began providing legal nurse consulting services for Military Court Martials. She is a certified adult/adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner and board certified Advanced Forensic Nurse. The proprietor of the INTREPID Forensic Healthcare Consulting firm located in Fargo, ND, she provides criminal case consultation and expert witness services for military and civilian courts.

Diana Faugno graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing-University of North Dakota and a Master of Science in Nursing-University of Phoenix. Ms. Faugno is a Founding Board Director for End Violence Against Women International (EVAWI). She is a founding board member for the Academy of Forensic Nursing. She is also a retired fellow in the American Academy of Forensic Science. She currently is a Forensic Nurse at Live Safe resources in Dallas, Georgia. She was the recipient of the 2019 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week Award given in Washington DC. She provides training across the country and internationally for sexual assault and strangulation to assist communities who wish to bring forward teams of health care providers.

Christine Foote-Lucero has been a licensed Registered Nurse in Colorado for 20 years, with a focus on critical care and obtained her master’s degree in forensic nursing. She currently manages the Forensic Nursing team at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) in Aurora, CO. Her clinical experiences as a forensic nurse have included death investigation and correctional nursing, as well as sexual assault, intimate partner violence, physical assault, strangulation, elder abuse, child abuse, and human trafficking. She also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Academy of Forensic Nurses.
PAM TABOR
DNP, AFN-BC
Pamela has practiced in forensics since 1997 and holds a DNP, with a forensic focus, is a Board-Certified Advance Forensic Nurse and has an Advance Health Specialty Forensic Science Certification, in addition to being a Certified Law Enforcement Standards and Training Instructor. Her work includes serving as a consultant and expert witness in the private sector and serves the Department of Defense in military trials. She has testified before the legislature on numerous occasions and has consulted at the Pentagon. She served as the inaugural director for two programs: Arkansas Infant & Child Death Review Program and the first hospital-based sexual assault unit in Arkansas.
