Thank you for all the responses
I think specific HT assessment Forms would be great. I use the questions above as screening questions. We printed them on a badge buddy with our Hotline # so our nurses have them available at all times. Plus we have 6 basic questions built into Cerner. If your in an ER, I think its important to develop a team who is better prepared and trained to interact with a suspected or actual HT survivor anywhere in the hospital facility. I have also developed a log book for our ER to document suspected /actual pt. and what actions were done (was the hotline called or LE, discharge to shelter ect.) for follow up case review.
The form could include the HT ICD10 codes also.
I found an assessment tool from another hospital system that asks 4 questions about sex trafficking for US citizens & 6 questions for foreigners. If the patient answers yes to any of the questions then they initiate an alogrithm to assist the victim to safety - if they want assistance.
The questions asked, for US citizens:
exchanging sex for food, shelter, drugs, &/or money,
if they have been forced to have sex against their will,
have they been asked to have sex with multiple partners, &
do they have to meet a quota of money before they can go home.
anyone holds their identity documents for them & why,
are they afraid to leave their job because of physical abuse or threats by employer,
have they been lied to about the work they would be doing,
threatened with deportation or jail if they try to leave,
any family members, or themselves, threatened, &
have they been asked to do something sexually against their will.
After the above assessment, there is another screening tool that asks 7 more, in depth, questions about
any broken bones, accidental injuries,
drugs or alcohol,
issues with police,
anyone prevented you from leaving a residence or job thru intimidation, threats, blackmail
has sig other asked to do forced sex &/or forced work with another person,
anyone ask or force you to work that made you feel uncomfortable, &
trading sex for money, drugs, shelter, etc...
Our questions we are building into the EMR is very similar!
The hospital system I work at has on in the epic EMR. I work this Saturday night & can jot down the questions. They are specific to HT
Kathy, I have been working on questions related to human trafficking identification to go into the EMR for our emergency departments. However it was placed on hold d/t COVID. What type of documentation are you looking for? I did create a guideline for my organization related to identification and response to human trafficking.
Like there is a SANE form and DV form, I am wondering if there is something similar only specific to the HT patient.
I do not have a specific form for HT patient victims. Currently we just have the screening questions that we would utilize in the EMR. Sorry I could not have been more helpful.
I have been wanting to develop one other than just asking "do you feel safe at home?" 😐
