AFN Membership Options

Healthcare Professional Membership: $120 Annually

Nurses, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Physicians, Residents, Physician's Assistant, Psychologists, Other Mental Health Providers 

Associate Professional Membership: $75 Annually 

Advocates, Social Workers, Law Enforcement Personnel, Prosecutors, Criminal Defense Attorneys and Public Defenders, Forensic Scientists, Criminalists, etc.

Student Membership: $60 Annually

Students enrolled full-time in an initial, undergraduate, Registered Nurse program.

Retired Membership: $60 Annually

Retired Healthcare Professionals

Lifetime Membership: $1,500

Payment Options:

Option 1: One-Time Payment by Check, Money Order, or Credit Card

Option 2: Three Quarterly Payments of $500 by Check, Money Order, or Credit Card

Organization Membership

A discount is given to organizations that register multiple employees and/or volunteers at a single point in time. An "organization" is defined as a single health care institution, such as a hospital or medical center. For the purpose of this discount, AFN does not consider health care systems a single health care institution.

3-10 Members from Same Organization:

Discount: $10 per Member

 

11-25 Members from Same Organization:

Discount: $16 per Member

25-49 Members from Same Organization:

Discount: $20 per Member

50+ Members from Same Organization: $5,000 per Year*

*This is more than a $1,000 savings for organizations who are covering the cost of AFN membership for 50+ employees and/or volunteers. This is a one-year membership at the "Charter or Introductory Rate," and this rate will be available to organizations who take advantage of it in 2019 for 2 years.

 

Organizations must register the new members at the same time to receive the discount.

AFN Membership Levels

 

Distinguished Member (DM-AFN)

The purpose of the Distinguished Member designation is recognition of RN members in good standing who earns the title through service. Distinguished members are required to re-apply and be re-awarded the title every 2 years. Publicity with photograph will be posted on web site for 2 years per criteria. The board will meet each December to review submitted applications and their supporting documentation. Decisions will be sent to applicants in January.

Minimum Requirements to Apply for DM-AFN:

Actively promoting forensic nursing issues and/or making a significant contribution to AFN with a contributed significant service by (must meet at least 6 of the following criterion to qualify for consideration):

  • Charter Member (Founding)

  • Active Member

  • Active on at least one AFN committee.

  • Attends at least 85% of committee meetings (confirmed by Chair).

  • Writes articles for the AFN newsletter.

  • Actively recruits 6 new members every two years.

  • Presents at conferences on topics relating to forensic nursing.

  • Presents posters on topics relating to forensic nursing.

  • Presents podcasts on topics related to forensic nursing.

  • Presents webinars on topic’s related to forensic nursing.

  • Publishes in journal, magazine, or newsletter on topics relating to forensic nursing.

Distinguished Fellow (DF-AFN)

Distinguished Fellow is the highest recognition awarded to AFN members. These members have contributed significantly to the field of forensic nursing over a minimum of 10 years. This award recognizes the impact of the significant contributions and accomplishments that the individual has achieved through scholarship, education and/or service in the advancement of the profession of forensic nursing. Fellow status

is a distinction, and there are no privileges associated with the distinction. Regular membership must be maintained in order to keep the designation. No renewal of the fellow designation is required, and the designation is awarded for life. All founding AFN board members are Distinguished Fellows for life, as long as they maintain AFN membership. The board will meet each December to review submitted applications and their supporting documentation. Decisions will be sent to applicants in January. Recipients of DF-AFN status will be recognized on the AFN website and at an AFN Regional Conference (registration fees for attendance will be waived).

Minimum Requirements to Apply for DF-AFN:

  • AFN Membership

  • Demonstration of scholarship and evidence of achievements confirming a commitment to the development of the profession of forensic nursing.

  • Through practice, research, and/or a set of principles, advances knowledge of forensic concepts in scholarship, education, and service.

  • Significant contributions to the advancement of forensic nursing through outstanding achievements in public health, welfare and safety.

Distinguished Fellow Emeritus

(DFE-AFN)

Distinguished Fellow Emeritus is the highest recognition of retired forensic nurses. The designation is only awarded to retired members of AFN in good standing who have made significant contributions to the field of forensic nursing AND the AFN. DM-AFN or

DF-AFN recognition in the past 5 years is suggested for consideration of this status at the time of application.
