Dominice Haeni

RN, CAS in Forensic Nursing

My name is Dominice Haeni. I am 40 years old. I started my career as a nurse in 2007. My first job in the hospital was as an assistant nurse at the neurosurgical ward. The brain and the function of the cardiovascular system fascinated me from the beginning, which was the reason, I wanted to become an anesthesia nurse. As I started looking out for an apprenticeship as an anesthesia nurse, just a short time later, I became a mom of two girls. They changed my life and my priorities completely. After some time as a full-time mom, I restarted work as a nurse and switched to gynecological emergency. Over the last ten years, working with women in different stages, ages, and situations, I realized that the care situation for people affected by sexual or domestic violence who seek help in Swiss hospitals was poorly covered. In 2020, I attended the Certificate of Advanced Studies in Forensic Nursing at the University of Zurich. Since 2023, I have worked as a forensic nurse at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Zurich and my main goal is to improve the situation for victims of violence and implement forensic nursing in Switzerland. Since 2021, I have served as the vice president of the Swiss Association of Forensic Nursing. Together with other swiss forensic nurses, we try to implement trauma informed care and forensic nursing in Switzerland.
