Call for Abstracts: 2026 Canadian Forensic Nursing Symposium

As the Canadian Forensic Nurses Association (an AFN partner) celebrates 20 years of leadership, advocacy, and advancement in forensic nursing, they invite you to contribute to the next chapter of their story. The CFNA 2026 Symposium, themed "20 Years and Beyond," will reflect on CFNA's history while looking ahead to the future of forensic nursing practice, research, education, and policy in Canada. They welcome abstract submissions from nurses, interprofessional partners, students, researchers, and community partners who are working to enhance forensic care in diverse settings across the lifespan. 


Topics of Interest Include (but are not limited to): 

  • Advancements in forensic nursing practice 

  • Innovations in technology for forensic practice 

  • Trauma-informed and culturally safe care 

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration in forensic settings 

  • Forensic mental health and addictions 

  • Indigenous health and justice 

  • Innovations in Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program practice 

  • Legal and ethical issues in forensic nursing 

  • Education, mentorship, and leadership in forensic nursing 

  • Research and quality improvement initiatives 

  • Community-based approaches and partnerships 

  • Future directions in forensic policy and advocacy 


Presentation Formats: 

  • Oral Presentations (20 minutes + 10 minutes Q&A or 35 minutes + 10 minutes Q&A) 

  • Poster Presentations 

  • Panel Discussions or Workshops (up to 90 minutes) 


Submission Guidelines: 

  • Abstracts must be no more than 300 words 

  • Include title, author(s), affiliation(s), presentation format and time requested 

  • Submit here 

  • Deadline for submissions: November 1, 2025 

  • Notifications of acceptance will be sent by December 20, 2025
