President’s Corner - March 2023

Welcome to March! On behalf of the Academy, I️ am excited to announce that Academy of Forensic Nursing is forming a partnership with the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC).

APSAC’s mission is to improve society’s response to the abuse and neglect of children. APSAC envisions a world where all maltreated or at-risk children and their families have access to the highest level of professional commitment and service. Their mission aligns with AFN’s efforts to educate and equip healthcare professionals to better serve those affected by trauma.

With that in mind, we are working to provide discounted APSAC membership to all AFN members. In the next few weeks, a coupon code will be emailed to Academy members, along with instructions on how to obtain your dual membership.

Also, March 19 is Certified Nurses Day. The day of recognition is held each year on the birthday of Dr. Margretta “Gretta” Madden Styles, RN, EdD, FAAN, as a nod to her pioneering efforts to promote the importance of nurse certification. On this Certified Nurses Day, we celebrate all of you who are contemplating or preparing for your next certification — and those who have already worked and achieved that next-level standard that represents your knowledge and desire to provide accredited, focused, specialized care. Great work!

(And while we’re on the subject — check out certifications and recertifications through the Forensic Nursing Certification Board!)

Until next month,

Jennifer Johnson

President, AFN
