Lily D. Holderbaum

Lily D. Holderbaum, MSN, RN, SANE-A, is a distinguished forensic nurse with more than two decades of experience advancing the care of patients affected by violence, abuse, and trauma. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her strategic leadership, clinical expertise, and unwavering commitment to developing trauma-informed systems of care that improve outcomes for vulnerable populations.

Beginning her nursing career in 2003 in emergency and trauma nursing, Lily quickly identified the critical intersection between healthcare and the forensic needs of patients experiencing violence. Her passion for advocacy and patient-centered care led her to specialize in forensic nursing, where she has spent over 20 years providing expert assessment, treatment, and support for survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, human trafficking, child maltreatment, elder abuse, and other forms of interpersonal violence.

Over the past decade, Lily has served in progressively advanced leadership roles, driving program development, quality improvement, and interdisciplinary collaboration across healthcare and community systems. She has been instrumental in establishing and implementing evidence-based standards of care for forensic patient populations, ensuring healthcare organizations deliver compassionate, equitable, and legally sound services. Her work has strengthened organizational readiness, improved patient outcomes, and enhanced access to specialized care for survivors of trauma throughout the communities she serves.

Lily has completed extensive forensic nursing education and clinical training spanning adult, adolescent, and pediatric populations. She holds a Certificate in Forensic Nursing from Kaplan University and is board certified as an Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE-A) through the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN). She is currently pursuing her Forensic Nurse Specialist certification, further demonstrating her commitment to clinical excellence and lifelong professional development.

A respected leader within the forensic nursing profession, Lily has dedicated significant efforts to advancing collaboration among healthcare providers, law enforcement agencies, victim advocates, prosecutors, and community stakeholders. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Summit County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and currently chairs the Summit County Sexual Assault Coalition, where she helps shape regional strategies to improve coordinated responses for survivors of sexual violence.

Lily's influence extends nationally through her leadership within the International Association of Forensic Nurses. She has served the IAFN Ohio Chapter in numerous capacities, including Director at Large for Research and Education, President-Elect, President, and Past President. In these roles, she has championed professional development, evidence-based practice, and workforce advancement initiatives that strengthen the forensic nursing specialty and support the next generation of nurse leaders.
