Goal Statement
My goal as a member of the Academy of Forensic Nursing Board of Directors is to help strengthen the profession through collaborative leadership, mentorship, and evidence-based innovation. I am committed to increasing member engagement, supporting the translation of research into clinical practice, and fostering interdisciplinary partnerships that expand the visibility and impact of forensic nursing. By promoting leadership development, professional education, and scholarly collaboration, I hope to contribute to the Academy's continued growth while advancing its mission of improving care for individuals affected by trauma, violence, and abuse through scholarship, education, service, and advocacy.
Biography
Ariana Miller, MSN, RN is an Advanced Practice Forensic Nurse, emergency department registered nurse, educator, author, and founder of Black Veil Consulting Inc. She has nearly a decade of experience providing care in high-acuity healthcare settings and currently practices in a Level I Trauma Center, where she specializes in the care of patients affected by violence, trauma, abuse, and other medicolegal concerns. Her clinical expertise includes forensic assessment, trauma-informed care, injury interpretation, evidence collection and preservation, forensic documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration with healthcare, legal, and investigative professionals.
Ariana earned her Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Forensic Nursing and is passionate about advancing the integration of forensic nursing within healthcare systems. Throughout her career, she has worked to strengthen forensic practices through education, policy development, and advocacy. She developed and implemented a forensic evidence collection and preservation policy within her emergency department and serves as a forensic resource and educator for colleagues, promoting evidence-based practices that improve patient care while preserving the integrity of forensic evidence.
In addition to her clinical work, Ariana is the founder and owner of Black Veil Consulting Inc., where she serves as an Advanced Practice Forensic Nurse and Legal Nurse Consultant. Through her consulting practice, she partners with attorneys and other professionals to provide forensic case analysis, medicolegal consultation, standards of care evaluations, injury interpretation, and expert support in complex legal matters. Her work bridges the gap between healthcare and the legal system by translating complex medical information into clear, objective, evidence-based opinions.
Ariana is committed to advancing the forensic nursing profession through scholarship and professional engagement. She is a published author in the Journal of the Academy of Forensic Nursing and has presented at the Academy of Forensic Nursing International Conference on the evolution of DNA technology and forensic genetic genealogy, highlighting the impact of emerging forensic science on patient care and the justice system.
Her professional interests include forensic nursing leadership, medicolegal death investigation, trauma-informed practice, violence prevention, interdisciplinary collaboration, forensic education, and the translation of research into clinical practice. Ariana is passionate about mentoring future forensic nurses, expanding access to forensic education, and strengthening partnerships between healthcare, law enforcement, forensic science, and the legal community.
Ariana believes that forensic nurses play a critical role in improving patient outcomes, advancing justice, and shaping healthcare policy. Through clinical practice, education, scholarship, and leadership, she remains dedicated to advancing the profession and serving individuals and communities affected by trauma and violence.
