Goal Statement
My goal is to contribute to the advancement of forensic nursing through meaningful collaboration, education, mentorship, and advocacy. I hope to bring perspective gained from practicing in multiple states and within different program structures while supporting initiatives that build comprehensive forensic services, improve access, consistency, and sustainability. As a Board member, I would contribute practical leadership experience and a strong commitment to patient-centered, equitable forensic care.
Biography
Alisha Showalter is the SAFE Program Manager for BJC HealthCare in St. Louis, Missouri. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Walla Walla University in 2013 and her Master of Science in Forensic Nursing from Fitchburg State University in 2018. After becoming certified as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner in Texas, she supported program coordination at a Level I Regional Trauma Center. She has provided forensic services to pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients and has extensive experience in critical care, hospital operations, trauma-informed care, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
After relocating to Missouri, Alisha earned forensic nursing certifications through both the International Association of Forensic Nurses and the Academy of Forensic Nursing. She supported SANE program coordination at BJC Christian Hospital and served on the system Forensic Nursing and Human Trafficking committees. She also helped develop and launch the BJC SAFE Department in 2025, expanding comprehensive medical-forensic services across eleven hospitals throughout a large geographic region.
Alisha has a special interest in improving care for underserved and vulnerable populations and expanding access to trauma-informed, patient-centered medical forensic services. As a member of Missouri’s Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Working Group, she collaborates with stakeholders to strengthen statewide approaches to evidence management, multidisciplinary response, and survivor-centered care.
