I agree with Catherine. I wish someone talked to me about prosecution rates. The message needs to be given to new SANE nurses about the realities of the judicial system and that training emphasize how we can help the victim start to heal from their trauma.
I wish someone had been realistic with me regarding prosecution rates. I spent the first year or so thinking I was making a difference from a health care perspective AND with future prosecutions. It would have been good to focus less on whether these cases ended up in court and more on what I could do for my patient's healing and well-being. While we do go to court, it's really a very small part of my role.
