Forensic Nursing Graduate Program Forensic nurses are highly trained experts that provide care to some of the most vulnerable patients, those who have experienced trauma, violence, or maltreatment. With their advanced and specialized education, forensic nurses help lead interprofessional teams that assist patients who have been victimized in achieving optimum health and legal outcomes. Oakland University is a leader in Forensic Nursing education. Offering a comprehensive Forensic Nursing curriculum with a strong emphasis on hands-on learning and innovative clinical experiences, graduates are prepared to serve as transformational leaders in a variety of Forensic Nursing roles. Oakland University is the first and only Forensic Nursing program in the state of Michigan and one of only a handful in the nation. Endorsed by the Founder of Forensic Nursing as a Scientific Discipline, Virginia Lynch, the Forensic Nursing program prepares graduates for professional practice in the role of the forensic nurse through the application of knowledge and principles foundational to nursing and forensic science. We offer two program options, a Master of Science in Nursing — Forensic Nursing and our Graduate Certificate in Forensic Nursing. The curriculum is delivered online with two on-campus visits during the program and offers a minimum of 420 clinical hours.
