Katie Swift

Katie Swift is a nurse practitioner and part of the Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center team since 2013. She has earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Frostburg State University and a Master of Science in Nursing from George Washington University. Swift has been the recipient of the nationally recognized Daisy Award for her compassionate care of victims of sexual assault and the Advanced Practice Provider RISES Award at Shady Grove Medical Center.


Swift is a licensed forensic nurse examiner, board certified Family Nurse Practitioner, board certified medical-surgical nurse, certified sexual assault nurse examiner for adult/adolescent and pediatrics. She joined the Forensic Medical Unit at Shady Grove Medical Center in 2014, working with victims of violence across the lifespan. She is currently a member of several professional organizations including the Academy of Forensic Nursing, the International Association of Forensic Nurses, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.


Swift has presented at the International Association of Forensic Nursing Conference and internationally for forensic nurses in Brazil. She regularly educates community partners including other healthcare professionals, police, adult protective services, and child protective services about the role of the forensic nurse. Swift has served as an expert witness for pediatric and adult sexual assault, abuse, intimate partner, and strangulation cases and testified at the Maryland House of Delegates in support of strangulation legislation that protects her patients.


She enjoys watching her son’s lacrosse games, playing dress up with her daughter, and dreaming of her next Disney vacation.
