FNCB Announces New Certifications
Throughout the winter months, the Forensic Nursing Certification Board (FNCB) listened closely as forensic nurses shared their realities: the uncertainty they were navigating, the honesty of their frustrations, and their hopes for how our specialty can continue to grow. Your insights shaped a clear message—one grounded in need, opportunity, collaboration, and inclusion.
Today, FNCB is sharing the launch of two new certifications created by forensic nurses, for forensic nurses, and in direct response to what you told them matters most.
Many of you asked for a certification that validates competency in sexual violence care. Whether you are newly trained, preparing to recertify, or seeking formal recognition of your expertise, the Sexual Violence Across the Lifespan Forensic Nurse (SVFN) Certification was built for you. Aligned with the ANCC Essentials and the FNCB Core Competencies, this certification reflects the essential knowledge all forensic nurses need to know when caring for people who experience sexual violence. This new certification is set to launch in early April.
Next, the Human Trafficking Forensic Nurse (HTFN) Certification will launch in July. Forensic nurses repeatedly expressed the need for competency validation in human trafficking response. Survivors and subject‑matter experts contributed their lived experience and professional insight, ensuring this certification reflects the complex, lifespan‑encompassing realities of human trafficking.
“To every forensic nurse who shared their stories, challenges, and aspirations with us—thank you. Your honesty and trust guided this work,” said FNCB President Deborah St. Germain. “We remain committed to making strides—not only part of our vision and mission, but part of how we show up for one another and for the people we serve. Together, we continue moving the forensic nursing specialty forward, making it stronger, more inclusive, and more responsive to the needs of all survivors.”
