Abigail McClain-Smith

Abigail “Abi” McLain-Smith is a forensic nurse and nursing supervisor with more than 18 years of nursing experience, including an extensive background in emergency nursing. She serves as a Forensic Nurse Examiner with the Jackson County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) in Oregon and leads the forensic nursing program in Siskiyou County, California, where she oversees the development and delivery of forensic medical services for victims of violence. McClain-Smith is passionate about improving the recognition, documentation, and medical response to violence through education and multidisciplinary collaboration. She regularly presents at local, regional, and national conferences and provides training for healthcare professionals, law enforcement, prosecutors, victim advocates, emergency medical services, and other multidisciplinary partners. She works closely with multidisciplinary teams to strengthen coordinated responses to interpersonal violence and has helped develop forensic nursing policies, protocols, and educational programs.
