Amanda Townsend

Amanda Townsend (she/her) is a Gender Affirming Surgery Nurse Practitioner in Indianapolis, Indiana. After finishing her graduate degree from the University of Minnesota in 2018, she started her career in family planning and general gynecology care. That practice is where she grew her passion for working with transgender individuals.

Her belief in meeting patients where they are at in their health care journey has allowed her to create a welcoming and trusting environment for patients who have developed a mistrust in the health care system. Using informed consent and evidence-based practices, she has been able to slowly rebuild the lost trust for patients she serves. Her approach to patient care can be described as a “friendly tour guide” on their health care journey.

Outside of her role in transgender health care, she is interested in abortion care, maternal mortality, and contraception. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with family and their Rhodesian Ridgeback.
